Telco Multilayer Switches-Plug In Tranceivers-

Plug-in Transceivers Increase Operational Flexibility and Reduce OPEX
Plug-in transceivers introduce a paradigm shift in networking. These modules are interchangeable, so that electro-optical or fiber optic networks can be upgraded and maintained more conveniently than has been the case with traditional soldered-in modules.
Rather than replacing an entire circuit board containing several soldered-in modules, a
single module can be removed and replaced for repair or upgrading. This results in a substantial cost savings, both in maintenance and in upgrading efforts.

Technology Overview
Fiber optic refers to the medium and the technology associated with the transmission of
information as light impulses along a glass or plastic fiber. Optical fiber carries much more
information than conventional copper wire and is far less subject to electromagnetic interference.
To make use of the optical media, one needs to use an active component called a
transceiver. A transceiver is a combination transmitter/receiver in a single package.

Telco Systems’ plug-in transceivers include a complete line of interface types and rates targeted at Ethernet Access applications.

The transceivers offering includes:

Gigabit Ethernet plug-in transceivers

A miniGBIC (SFP) family for short haul (1000BaseSX) up to extremely long haul
(120km) solutions, as well as Bi-Directional and EFM-compliant transceivers
A GBIC family for short haul (1000BaseSX) up to extremely long haul
(120km) solutions
Gigabit Ethernet copper-based 1000BaseT miniGBIC and GBIC solutions
CWDM solutions
SFP-based single-mode transceiver for multimode fiber optics (2km reach)
100Mbps (100BaseFX) plug-in transceivers

A miniGBIC (SFP) family for multimode (2km) and singlemode long distance
(100km) solutions
SFP-based 802.3ah-compliant EPON and Bi-Directional solutions
10 Gigabit Ethernet plug-in transceivers

XENPAK 10km reach transceivers
An XFP family for multimode (300m) and singlemode (currently 10km, soon to
be longer distance) solutions
Benefits and Features

Flexibility 1 – “pay-as-you-grow” add transceivers only when you need them
Flexibility 2 – where different distance needs are required, just replace the transceiver and not the complete platform
Availability – hot-swap support guarantee always-on service
Simplicity - just insert or extract the transceiver - as simple as that!
Standard Solution – Telco offers a complete line of standardsbased solutions for guaranteed interoperability
Port Density Increase – its small size enables support of up to 720 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single rack with Telco Systems’
ATCA-based T6Pro Routing Switch
Cost Savings – commonly available standard transceivers (off-the-shelf) - no need to build up stocks – complete interchangeability
